Reputation- What other people think about you (shaped mostly by public actions and words)
Character- Who you really are (shaped by who you are when you are alone)
Character- Who you really are (shaped by who you are when you are alone)
Isn't it crazy we can fool people with our mouths. We can make people think certain things about us with what we say... but what our heart meditates on is who we really are. This Psalm jumped out at me yesterday. David asks God to let the words of his mouth and the meditation of his heart be acceptable in His sight. It struck me that David's desire was not only public Holiness, but personal and private Holiness. The challenge to me was that my repuation and my character would match and both be pleasing to God. Here is a quote to meditate on. It was partly derived from a sermon I heard from Jeremy Cox. It sits to this day on my desk as a reminder of this same principle
"Your reputation is merely an illusion if it is not a mirror image of your character."
May not only the words I speak please you , but let what even my heart thinks of in private moments bring a smile to Your face, oh God.
